Has it been that long?? Aside from a fun little jaunt at Personality Crisis back in March, TCL hasn’t hit Manhattan proper since October!  A lot has progressed since then - Avenue of Criminals is just the tip of the iceberg.  So after a couple stellar shows in NJ and Philly, we’re ready to dive back in this Saturday.  And what better place than one of our favorite LES venues, Pianos?  If you made it out during our residency back in August you know how fun the room is and how quickly it fills up, so get there early, its going to be a blast.

As you may already know, Avenue of Criminals is available on our myspace to stream.

In this photo, Sean is getting his ivory tickling on with this brilliant grand piano we got our hands on (thank you Hailey and family) for a pleasant sunday recording sesh.

As we announced yesterday, Avenue of Criminals is now streaming on Myspace as a preview for our upcoming debut LP.  You might recognize this tune from MTV2’s Rock Battle NYC, or from the live in-studio acoustic version from our White Balloon EP.  This brand new track was engineered and produced by the venerable Ron Robinson Jr.

In the coming months we’ll be periodically posting album previews just like this (a few familiar, but most sparkling new!) so keep your eyes and ears glued to thecanonlogic.com for updates.

Well, Saturday found us basking in warm weather and sipping on cool Lions Head before ultimately rocking the F out of the North Star for the first time in… a while.  Philadelphia turned out in humbling numbers and we are truly appreciative.  Thanks to everyone who came out and thanks to Freezepop and Plushgun for having us.  Already looking forward to next time.

There are some days when I play guitar so much that my fingers begin to turn on me, crying for mercy, hoping that I will spare them a few hours of rest so they can kick it with their home boys. Whenever I ask them for one more hour of shredding, they usually comply, as they are hard working fingers, but with no benefits and health insurance, I try my best to spare them a few moments of rest here and there. And what do I do when my fingers need a rest? Well there are a few things you might find a fellow such as me taking part in when I am forced to put the guitar down. I enjoy reading a good book, cooking a hearty meal, attempting a new juggling trick, and even painting a new portrait on my wall on occasion, but those all require my fingers, and as I said before, and some days they simply need a rest. So last night I picked out a movie to watch, as it is one of the few ways to spare my fingers some relaxation. 

I was searching through an online database of instantly available movies from netflix, seeing that it was 1AM and our local video store was not open, I didn’t have too many options. Recently I have found myself watching cult classics, documentaries, and newer but more independent/unknown films that received fair amounts of positive recognition. Last night I stumbled upon a film that captured my attention and seemed to be something I might enjoy, the synopsis read:

The film tells a story of John Oldman, a man claiming to be a Cro-Magnon caveman, who still survives after 14,000 years. The entire film is shot in a small house and its porch, relying solely on the conversation of the characters to keep the plot moving: the film is an intellectual discourse between the alleged 14,000-year-old Cro-Magnon and his professor and teacher friends at his farewell party.

The movie, “The Man from Earth“, is a film that came out in 2007, written by Jerome Bixby (credited for writing some of the original Star Trek episodes), who conceived the film in the early 1960’s, but did not complete it until April in 1998, on his death bed, making it his final piece of work. Now I must say, as much as I love movies and have seen them of all different shapes and sizes, I don’t feel that I have anything of a professional opinion, or whatever you want to call it, to write a review and express my in-depth opinions about this film. This might have something to do with the fact that I do not spend much time reading reviews myself, I like to keep things a bit more open for my own personal interpretation at the moment of viewing. With the ability to watch movies online for free these days, I find it easier to read through plot synopsis and listen to friend recommendations, without having to worry about wasting a decent chunk of change to go out and see a movie. With that being said, all I will express here is that when the movie started, at first glance, it seemed to be a low budget, made for TV, Sci-Fi film, but as I watched on, it quickly became a highly intriguing and thought provoking film, full of clever ideas and interactions. I always love a good movie that explores an interesting plot and makes me think in a slightly new manner. Science fiction or not, if it is done well, and captures my attention, then I will gladly pass along a positive recommendation, as I am doing right now to anyone who may be reading.
