Dick’s Diary: 02/13/09
Friday, February 13th, 2009Listening to the guys run through their set for Friday night, it’s obvious how excited they are to get back on stage. Working on the album has led to many exciting creative breakthroughs and the prospect of finally sharing some of them has got them all pretty amped. Because my musical talent is limited to an occasional tambourine solo, I’ll compare their situation to something I’ve experienced as a caterer. For an event of any size, so much thought and effort goes into planning and preparing the perfect meal but none of that matters if it isn’t eaten and enjoyed. The food is nothing without those enjoying it, and likewise, for The Canon Logic, their music is nothing without their fans hearing it. So make sure you come out (and bring your friends) to Southpaw in Park Slope Friday tonight at 11:30 pm.

I’m sitting at my computer with headphones on. Headphones plugged in to nothing. No, I haven’t gone crazy but rather these headphones are saving my ears for the weekend. We always forget something and this time it was the earplugs. We’ll take it, knowing that we don’t have to run out to the local Long Island music shop in the morning to rent yet another piece of equipment left in Brooklyn. Ron Robinson Jr., the genius behind the ProTools set up is working on the levels for the drum kit and the guys are busy plugging in. They just jammed a bit on Nights at Armour Mansion, a new song on the upcoming album and within minutes, the grind of the week has been quickly replaced with the drive and enthusiasm that has made this process so incredible to watch. I’m logging the footage from last weekend and suddenly the magnitude of the shots filling my hard drive becomes apparent. The Canon Logic hasn’t played a show in a while, and many of their fans have been waiting to see what is coming next. Straddling the line between fan and contributor has given me the opportunity to see a side of the band that most do not. Their commitment to success is un-measurable and their focus is unmatched. I’ve been documenting the last few months with the hopes of sharing this inside look with all of you. From the writing, to the practice, to the recording you’ll get a chance to see the raw uncut process leading up to their full album release slated for sometime this year. With a great mix of re-tooled classics and newly written soon to be favorites, the album’s expectations continue to grow. After this weekend of final basic track recordings, the guys will be playing in the BAM, Sounds like Music Festival at South Paw in Park Slope Brooklyn (Friday the 13th at 11:15 PM) and it would be a shame to miss it. They’ve been reveling in the prospect of getting back on stage and they can’t wait to feed off of your excitement. Check back in soon for some video clips and some more insight into what makes The Canon Logic go….
