CMJ Recap

October 29th, 2008

CMJ is over.

We had a great time. A very special thanks to everyone that came out to our Fearless TV showcase last Tuesday at Arlene’s Grocery with Semi Precious Weapons, Black Taxi, The Dig, Tunnels to Holland, Second Dan, and PEEPHOLE. Hope you are all still rocking those rad shades we gave out.

After our showcase ended, we used the rest of the week to relax and also catch some other great bands’ shows. Some highlights include Oxford Collapse (some girl got her tooth accidentally knocked out by the bassist at this show), Pela (amazing live performance), Eagle Seagull, The Virgins (contrary to what we had heard, these guys are actually really good live), sBACH (strangely interesting instrumental rock, great show), among others. We also met some really cool people and made some new friends. All in all, a terrific week. We’re very much looking forward to SXSW and next year’s CMJ.

The funniest story of the week award goes to Mark, who tried to attend an Online Marketing panel but mistakenly ended up in the Current State of Reggae panel instead.

If anyone would like a pair of shades (we have some extras), feel free to leave a comment on this post and we will get in touch with you about sending you a pair.

CMJ Showcase Reviewed by The Deli Magazine

October 22nd, 2008

Thanks to everyone who made it out to our CMJ showcase last night at Arlene’s Grocery. We had a great time. There’s nothing like looking out into a crowd of party-goers and seeing them all sporting novelty sunglasses with your band’s name on them…or something.

Our good friends over at The Deli Magazine have already reviewed the show - it seems like they enjoyed the set! We really appreciate their kind words. Head over there now to check it out.

Also, incase you haven’t already, make sure to download your free copy of Pas De Deux that we told you about on those cards we handed out last night. The password is on the card.

Thanks again!

LP1: Guitars, Keys, and Tambourines

October 19th, 2008

We took a few steps closer to the end of the tunnel this weekend as we laid down some tracks for the upcoming album. Mark and Josh knocked out some gritty licks, and the sounds they’re getting are sure to astound. Sean and I recorded some rhythm tracks, and by the end of the weekend we were able to finish the instrumentation on our first 4 songs.

Excited? We are.

Our good friend Dick Silver stopped in on Sunday, and took some footage of us playing beer-bottle-guitar, rockin’ the tambo, and lounging in the studio (keep a lookout for youtube footage). All in all, things are progressing smoothly, and we are looking forward to CMJ this week. Don’t forget to check us out at our CMJ showcase (Arlene’s Grocery; 7 PM).

More to come…

Songs from the MTV2 Commercials

October 17th, 2008

Thanks to the fancy technology built into this blog, we’re noticing a lot of people are ending up here after googling things like “the canon logic song mtv2 commercial”.

Incase you’re one of these people, the songs from the commercials we’ve seen so far are entitled Delia and Avenue of Criminals. You can hear both of those songs on our myspace page right now. You can buy Delia from iTunes here by clicking here. The version of Avenue of Criminals on our myspace page is a live, acoustic version of the song, and is slightly different than the one we played on the commercial.

Unfortunately, a studio recording of Avenue of Criminals doesn’t exist yet. However, this past weekend, we laid down the basic tracks of the song at our studio out on Long Island. It will be featured on our forthcoming full length album, due out within the next few months.

Kicking ass and taking names

October 16th, 2008

Most of you know him as a ruthless bounty hunter. Some of you know him as a lover, a philanthropist, an entertainer. We’re lucky enough to know him as a friend. His name is Boba Fett, and he’s our Myspace friend. He took a liking to one of our tracks and now he’s spreading the good word of our music (via his myspace page of course).

More importantly, I can finally rest at night feeling vindicated for the crapfest that was Star Wars Episodes I through III. You guys really owed us one. Thanks dude.

I want my mtv… 2

October 14th, 2008

A friend of ours spotted us on MTV2 an hour or so ago and was nice enough to give us the tip. Mike and I tuned in and caught another clip of us playing. Turns out they’re going to be using footage from Rock Battle NYC this week in between their shows and commercial breaks. The take home message: watch MTV2 all week long. Starting now. Do it.

No Shows This Weekend: Album Production Begins

October 10th, 2008

Surprisingly, you will not be able to catch us ripping through a set in the LES this weekend. (You can, however, get a quick glimpse of one we played last weekend at Sullivan Hall over at BrooklynRocks.)

Instead, we’ll be holed up in that studio we keep out on Long Island (we haven’t officially named it yet) laying down basic tracks for our currently untitled, forthcoming LP. We won’t tell you which tracks yet (we would never want to spoil the surprise), but we can promise you that you will not be disappointed.

So Tim, Ron (Ron being Ron Robinson Jr., our producer and dear friend) and I will hop in the Astrovan and head out there right after work (The other guys will be arriving via train the next morning). We plan to be there by 9pm-ish, which will give us ample time to set the room up to be able to record bass and drums first thing tomorrow morning. Once we begin tracking, we’ll play straight through till Sunday, only taking breaks to eat, play a round of Manhunt, and watch Tina Fey’s weekly impersonation of Sarah Palin on SNL. After that, we’ll all go our seperate ways to watch our respective NFL teams. Tim and Josh are big Eagles fans. Mark and Sean are Giants fans. I’m a Jets fan. Not sure who Ron roots for.

Stay glued to thecanonlogic.com all weekend to get mobile updates from the studio. We want to share this experience with all of you as much as possible.

What are you up to this weekend? Let us know!
