Broken Social Scene

August 2nd, 2010

Mr. Mark Alu introduced me to Broken Social Scene back in college. I wasn’t immediately blown away, but it holds well with their music, the more you listen, the more depth you feel and the greater respect and love you have for them. Check out this multi camera taping of some live songs where you can manually switch camera angles throughout the show. The only thing missing is an option that shifts them for you once you get bored of switching around.

Anamanaguchi

July 22nd, 2010

A year ago I was introduced to my neighbor’s boyfriend James. Kally, my neighbor, had mentioned that her boyfriend was also in a band and that they were called Anamanaguchi. I had heard of them before, knew that they were in the 8bit scene, and that a few of my friends really dug their stuff.

When I finally got around to checking out their music I was extremely impressed, to say the least. Not being familiar with the 8bit scene, but having grown up with a lethal dose of video games, the moment I heard their stuff I was brought back to a childhood of Final Fantasy, Street of Rage, Shinobi, and everything in between, almost instantly.

Man I could really get into this stuff. I hear their concerts are beyond intense and they even have a bad ass movie projector thing going on. They are currently doing a sweet promotion on their website where they will be releasing a new single every two weeks for FREE here.

Perhaps the most exciting news in the 8bit world is that Anamanaguchi did the entire soundtrack for the video game that is attached to the movie “Scott Pilgrim Vs The World.” You know, that movie where Michael Cera has to battle a bunch of X-boyfriends to gain access to the girl that he loves. Coming soon…, but for now check out the trailer to the video game, shit looks awesome. The type of game where you go around and just kick the crap out of people, true old school graphics and all.

I’m Not In Love

July 15th, 2010

This song is dedicated to Tim, I know he loves this song. I think we originally heard “I’m Not In Love” on the Super Furry Animals “Late Night Tales” Cd. This is not an original album but a sort of playlist created by the band of some of their favorite songs along with a cover that they did. I can’t say I know all that much more 10cc songs, maybe I should grab an album.
Check out the Late Night Tales cd here, there are some really kick ass songs.

Flowers

July 13th, 2010

This video makes me crack up a little. Brandon Flowers at it again. I must say for all of the front men out there, Flowers has really gone out of his way to step up his game year after year. The man sure knows what change and progress are. Unlike a lot of bands (most) who get stuck in their sound after some initial success, Flowers keeps pushing on and on. Excited for their next album and his solo one as well.

Backyard Sessions

July 9th, 2010

One of my oldest friends David Chaitt has been throwing these kick ass backyard sessions where he gets a few talented bands together on saturdays at his pad, cooks some food with the band, invites people over to eat and hear them play, and gets someone to film and document the whole shibang. We have a backyard session set for August, very excited about it. But in the meantime check out his first session with Nicole Atkins below.
